step one

My sister leaves for Spain this Friday. She's going with her Spanish class to tour her way though Madrid, Toledo, Cordoba, Seville, Granada, and Costa del Sol. She's beyond excited, and I'm excited for her. I took this same trip with my Spanish teacher when I was a junior in high school. It was my first trip "alone," it was my first visit to Europe, it was my first taste of wanderlust. And in all that nostalgia,  I've collected a medley of photos from my first camera:

I like to think I've improved my sense of style, table manners, photography skills and food preferences since then. Ha.

In other news, I've realized that balancing a full-time job with the rest of my life is going to take some work (pun intended.) I intend to figure that out soon...

  1. oh I love old photos...and I am sure we both have evolved style-wise and taste bud wise over the years. I still love them though! I have only been to Barcelona, not all over Spain, but I really adored it...and the people were so great there as well. I am sure she will have an amazing time like you did. Oh, and real work is so hard to balance with other life...I am struggling with that too as you may know from my m.i.a.-ness. I am sure we will get there someday. Hopefully sooner, rather than later.

  2. Finding balance is a constant work in progress. It's a question of do you want to become "the job", or is having a family and friends more important to you. Neither answer is bad. It's just personal.

  3. aw, you look so young. :)

the balance thing will come with practice. being able to move into the city will definitely make it easier, but any major transition requires an adjustment period. you'll figure out what works for you with some trial and error, promise.

  5. claire: I love them too :) and Barcelona is my favorite city in Spain! I didn't visit it on the trip I talked about above but I did go when I was studying abroad. Beautiful, beautiful city and amazing people. As for balance, I have faith we'll figure it out eventually.

GF Gidget: Good point. I'm sure we must constantly re-balance and I don't doubt that the way we do will change with age.

    leslie: Ha, I do, don't I :). Thanks, dear!

Charissa: Oh, it was wonderful. Even though I'm thrilled to be working, I'd appreciate a visit to España soon too :)
