the happiest of feet

A few years ago, I spent Thanksgiving at my cousins apartment. We ate, we drank, we were merry, and then we drove a few blocks down to see Happy Feet. I don't exactly remember why :). The main character penguin in the animated film spends most of it in search of his heart song, that beautiful unique little song that male penguins sing to attract a mate. For a more comprehensive review, in the words of the AFI, "Happy Feet is a one-of-a-kind motion picture experience. George Miller continues to paint outside the lines of traditional filmmaking, and his genius expands upon the animated art form to illuminate a world where penguins embrace dance and differences to survive and thrive. But that is just the tip of the iceberg, as the environment, religion and the chasm between generations enrich this sweet and subtle tale - one that is fun and funny, brilliant and beautiful, groundbreaking and global in its message."

Despite the fact that I'm a fan though, I bring up Happy Feet not to praise it, but to announce that I have found my heart song. In human terms, my study abroad friends and I determined that a heart song is hardly a musical tune to attract the loves of our lives; Our heart songs are those songs that make us feel the most alive, that wrap themselves around our heart in both a comforting and invigorating way, and that truly speak to us on a deeper level. Although I've known this since my time in Strasbourg, it's taken me up until now to find one for my own:

Both mellow and motivated, I'd say it's a nice fit. Have you found your heart song?

Me and my emo self ;). Ha. In other news, I am currently getting ready to head it into the city (for the 6th time in the past 7 days, mind you) for the ING New York City Marathon. I'm so excited! Running such a long distance for such an amazing cause is a wonderful thing, and I am fully prepared to be inspired. Come visit myself, Chrissie, our friend, Laura, and Florida export, Shannon, at the 16.5 mile station at 73rd and 1st, if you can. Good luck to all participants and see you there!
