jack(ie) of all trades

Bonjour, mes chous! An affectionate French greeting that means 'hello, my cabbages.' Anyway, I apologize for my unannounced day off. I just can't seem to sleep on a regular schedule anymore; it's been taking me until 3 in the morning or later to fall asleep, and yesterday, I wasn't able to sleep in. If anyone has any advice to offer on how to increase my zzzs, I'd greatly appreciate it!
As my tweeps already know, I spent my Sunday on an outing with the fam--lunch and an Off-Broadway show (our Christmas gift).
Beforehand, I enjoyed a scrumptious bowl of pumpkin oatmeal served alongside a black coffee. Three things to note: (1) I usually drink green tea in the AM but I am desperate need of a grocery shopping trip; (2) I usually drink green tea in the morning but it would have taken at least three tea bags to recharge my exhausted body; (3) On the rare occasion that I do drink coffee, I take it black.
Now for the fabulous play time: we ventured to the Westside Theatre, following our lunch event at the Cheesecake Factory, to see the Marvelous Wonderettes, "a cotton-candy colored, non-stop pop musical blast from the past! Featuring your favorite songs from the '50s and '60s, THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES takes you to the 1958 Springfield High School prom where we meet the... four girls with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts and voices to match!"
With such a lighthearted storyline, classic oldie music, and talent, I absolutely loved the show! It was their last performance, too.
And it got me thinking about VHS--the good ol' days. Personally, I'd like to think that I had a wonderful high school experience; I had many friends, did well, and overall just enjoyed being involved... to the extreme. To preface my upcoming statements, I will say that I went to a small school (graduating class was only 95) and that it was somewhat "cool" to do things. In other words, for the most part, there were none of those high school stereotypes, and I was, like many others, a Jack(ie) of all Trades.
So much so; that my college friends laughed out loud (yes LOLed) when they "found out." Alright, here I go, I was: an honors student, a Varsity Field Hockey team captain, a performer in the school play, the coordinator of the Spanish Club, a Varsity Softball team captain, a designer of the Viking Yearbook, and a member of the VIF (Valhalla International Fund) club. The last one would be where my passion for cultural differences was born. Oh yeah, and, I was...
And now I'm thoroughly embarrassed O:). Then again, I wouldn't be who I am today if it weren't for who I was in high school...
You know, the kind of girl that ruins a perfectly raw, vegan meal with a few bites of dessert. Peanut butter cheesecake is irresistible.
What a day. You can see why I wasn't up for blogging can't you? Even overachievers need their rest :). For dinner, I whipped up a quick kitchen creation: Amy's Medium Chili with Vegetables topped with half of an avocado and Mary's Gone Crackers. Then, I scampered off to bed for a good night's sleep, finally. Hope you all have a spectacular Monday. I know the first day back to work or school after the holiday break is a toughie; I go back tomorrow. Salut!

  1. I've started the "going to bed" process much earlier than I used to. Instead of rushing to bed and hoping to fall asleep the minute I hit the pillow, I go in 30 minutes early and read, write down things I need to do and basically unwind. It might help.

  2. That play sounds fun! haha and wow you were "prom queen"?? That's awesome :) I was VP of the Pre-Med society, but now have ZERO interest in being a doctor haha

What helps me with sleep is unplugging from the computer and tv by 10pm, and reading until I fall asleep. For me, that results in a restful night of slumber (usually).

  4. I love chou, and other French words used as terms of endearment that might sound a bit strange to Americans, such as flea (puce).

I also went to a small high school and I loved that it allowed me to be involved in many activities, like theatre, x country, newspaper, and many other sports. I was in a graduating class of 63!

  5. Aw you're adorable. In junior high I was the human relations coordinator on student council and then in high school I totally lacked the school spirit... got the good grades and played ultimate frisbee but that's about it. Now in university I work for the newspaper, though, so I guess that's something? Hehe.

  6. You and I had a similar high school experience. My school was also quite small (only 200 in my class) so it was normal to be involved in school. There weren't many cliques because everyone, literally, knew everyone. We grew up together and our schools didn't really 'combine' (i.e. 3 middle schools all attend same high school). I was involved with the yearbook, my sport, cheerleading, another sport that has to be kept secret, and National Honors Society. Phew!

  8. Wow, you were quite the well-rounded high-school spirited student! Prom queen too? Nice!

Try drinking warm milk before bed. It really helps. And also, don't do too much activity in the evening.

  10. Rose: That's actually a wonderful idea, thanks for sharing!

Jenngirl: Haha yes, things sure to change don’t they ☺ I really need to learn how to unplug, and asap!

Jesslikesithot: Mmm, chunky ;) I’ll post about it tonight, they are as scrumptious as they look! Thanks, I actually don’t go back until the 18th but I’ll keep that in mind.

mayapamela525: Aw so cute, and so true. Yay. So fun!

Livinghealthyintherealworld: That is definitely something! I’ve found that people either do a little bit of everything (like me) or delve deeper into one or two specific passions. Both are valuable ☺.

K from ksgoodeat: Wow, way to go! And I know what you mean, I literally knew every single person, and usually their family as well, haha.

Lizzy: Thanks, um, I try not to do so too often because of the health controversy and the fact that it’s not my favorite but if it comes down to it I will most def take your advice. Hope you had a great Monday as well!

Burpandslurp: Haha, ya think? ;) Mmm, a warm comforting beverage, great idea.

Findinghappinessandhealth: Aw, thank you! Hope to ”see you around soon!”
