the freedom in freelance

Morning darling, TGIF! Lately my days have been incredibly long, and my weeks, longer. It's not necessarily a bad thing, and I'm certainly not complaining, but it makes each coming weekend that much more exciting. Still, that excitement is more likely born from theory rather than any such practice in true relaxation.  As a freelancer I don't enjoy the daunting structure that  a full-time 9 to 5 offers; I sleep in if I need to, I go to yoga or pilates classes at whichever time I choose, and although I'm not constantly working, I work everyday. In any given day, I can be found working on the website content of a local yoga studio, creating publicity pieces for a talented interior designer, lending an editorial hand at a stylish women's glossy, or even, researching, interviewing, and writing an article for the most amazing New York wellness resource there ever was. I highly recommend you click on that last link. I promise you will like it :).
In addition to all that fun (and I don't mean that to come off as sarcastic, because usually it really is) I continue to contribute to Go Backpacking, the Lost Girls, and the California Tea House. Needless to say I've been very busy, so I apologize for the sporadic posting. I also ask that you please excuse the lackluster in my end-of-day meals. Following an invigorating power yoga class, I came home to a table set with bread, salad, wine, garlic green beans, sweet potato, and pork chops. As you can imagine, I helped myself to the majority of it, and then dug into my personal veggieburger stash for the protein factor. Have I been lazy in the kitchen lately? Probably. Have I still managed to make healthful choices? Definitely. But I do apologize for the boring food photography that comes as a result. So although I might be working this weekend, having the opportunity to dine out and even whip up something creative myself is truly a treat. I'm grateful for that today and I cannot wait for my date with this lovely lady tonight.

  2. I too am delving into the freelancing world, for me after years in corporate life. It is a lot of fun and certainly different! Have a great weekend!

  3. Jess@atasteofconfidence: Oh that's wonderful! Most of the time it's a plus, it's definitely challenging though. Not to mention that if whenever I feel like calling a friend, I have to remember that they won't be able to chat since they're at the office and then I feel like a slacker :). Ha, but that's a rare occasion.

Meghan@travelwinedine: Well I hope it's a welcome change for you! Congratulations, again and good luck with everything. Same to you :).

  4. I must say that I'm very envious of your current lifestyle - I've been doing a lot of thinking about what I want to do after graduation, and this sounds so much more appealing than working 9-5 in a boring cubicle wearing ugly shoes. Good luck with everything!
