who's danielle?

I am! I'm also a twenty-something SU grad living and working in New York.
Throughout my four years at Syracuse University, I explored magazine journalism and modern foreign languages, discovered my cultural passions, stumbled upon a healthy happiness, and started a blog. Here's a bit more about me:
My life is by no means perfect. I have dealt with body issues, confidence issues and many an issue with friends, boys, and family. Although challenging, each experienced helped me to develop into the human being I am today. One example, and the inspiration for this blog, was a year studying abroad. During those 340 days in South America and Europe, I lived with three different host families, attended multiple universities, made new friends, (foreign and not), and found three distinct and wonderful homes away from home. But perhaps most importantly of all, I found my most imperfectly passionate self.
I love to travel because I find pleasure in becoming familiar with new places, meeting new people, and learning new things. When I embarked on my year abroad, my sole hope was  to return trilingual. To be honest, I'm still working on fluency. What I did uncover, however, was a deeper and growing appreciation for culture and diversity. I have become more informed, exposed, aware, and appreciative of our global community. My only hope to share that knowledge and understanding with others. With that said, I can still never seem to get enough, and am always seeking out my next adventure.
I love all things artistic because I believe creative expression is what makes us humans, human. Art has the incredible power to transform a feeling and thought into a tangible, beautiful product to be enjoyed for years to come. Throughout my childhood, I attended art camps and workshops in the areas of drawing, painting, sculpting, photography, acting, and writing. So while I may have ended pursuing the latter in my career (yay, word-appreciation!), I still make it a point to sketch in my free time and visit museums, galleries, and theaters whenever I can.
I love walking and practicing yoga because the combination allows me to recognize my strength and embrace clarity. They have become somewhat of mediative exercises for me, and I try my best to perform both actions daily. From time to time, I also enjoy running, though I'd hardly consider myself a runner.
And, I love food because it is an essential and daily pleasure. I prefer to nourish my body with real foods like greens, vegetables, legumes, and whole grains. Most often, I chose not to eat meat, poultry, or dairy products for a unique combination of environmental, political, and health concerns. With that said, I thoroughly appreciate a delicate French croissant or flavorful Chilean stew. I am committed to figuring out that which provides the most energy and satisfaction. You can be sure that it includes dark chocolate, red wine, and good beer.
I believe that life is meant to be lived, and in order to do so, one must prioritize mental, physical, emotional, and even spiritual health. My blog's name may have been influenced by my travels, and its pictures may mostly be of food, but my well being and happiness are sourced from a combination of the passions listed above. I hope that danielle abroad is a source of inspiration, comfort, and fun to all. Thank you so much for stopping by, I hope you'll stay a while.

P.S. I'm quirky, too! Case in point: one, two, three, four, five. Any more questions?
